Lenora Lemke, LMFT

Hi, I'm Lenora Lemke!

I have my own private practice. I integrate Life Coaching, Holistic Health Coaching, and Somatic Psychotherapy, and I work with the body, mind, and spirit.

I believe that every human being has the ability to heal. I work with an open heart and will deeply listen to you and treat you with respect. I believe that we must be fully understood (by ourselves and often by others) before we can make change.

My background

For many years, I had been a Personal Trainer, Health Coach and Life Coach who worked with people who had chronic health issues. I learned through working with my clients that there is an incredible link between the body, mind, and emotions. I also began to notice that I could predict a client’s functional movement, posture, and even health issues based on the person’s personality type/psychology. In addition, I witnessed how some trauma clients carried the trauma in their bodies, and how the trauma would surface when the client was doing a similar movement to the movement their body was doing when the trauma first happened. Eventually, I discovered that there is a field of study that integrates the body and mind called “Somatic Psychotherapy” and I had a strong feeling of knowing that this was the path for me to take. I felt that somatic psychotherapy was a missing link in the field of psychology and within the field of health/physical rehabilitation.

I currently see clients for Health Coaching, Life Coaching, and Somatic Psychotherapy. I work with adults, children, teens, and families.

What is Health and Life Coaching?

While psychotherapy works with an individual’s internal world (processing emotions, healing childhood wounds, etc.), Health and Life Coaching help a person make needed changes in their external world.

As a Health Coach, I help people discover what it is that their body needs to become healthy and vibrant. I start by assessing your eating, sleeping, and lifestyle habits and will analyze your gait, posture and functional movement to determine strength/flexibility exercises you can do to relieve pain and restore balance to your body. I can work together with you to help you make lifestyle changes like improving eating habits, starting an exercise routine, losing weight, or overcoming chronic pain/chronic health issues.

As a Life Coach, I help people reach their life goals. Some of my clients are seeking clarity about who they are, what they want in life and their purpose/passion in life. Others want to change habits/behaviors or start a new activity or job. I will help you develop a clear vision of who you truly are and help you set clear goals for what you want to achieve. You will not only change habits that aren't working for you, but life will become easier as you gain practical skills that you can take with you that will benefit you for the rest of your life.

What is Somatic Psychotherapy?

Somatic (body-centered) Psychotherapy is a holistic therapy that works with the connection among the body, mind, brain, and emotions. It involves working with physical feelings and sensations, posture, gestures and body movements to help you increase your awareness of what’s happening unconsciously. These techniques can also be used to calm the mind and regulate the nervous system. Somatic Psychotherapy is helpful for anyone who wishes to improve their self-awareness, have better relationships, and feel more calm and grounded. It is especially beneficial for people who have experienced trauma because trauma is stored in the body and affects the autonomic nervous system.

Some of the techniques I use in my Somatic Psychotherapy work have come from the following modalities: Gestalt, Hakomi, Formative, Sensorimotor, and Somatic Experiencing (SE). The way I work is different with each client because I choose modalities/techniques based on my client’s needs. I often integrate Somatic work with other modalities including Internal Family Systems Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Transactional Analysis (TA), and Redecision Therapy.

I have also been trained by the CHEK Institute as a Holistic Lifestyle Coach. I have been seeing Life Coaching clients for over 11 years and use mindfulness, goal setting and NLP to work on emotions, core values, and unconscious beliefs. My experience includes offering nutrition and stress management educational seminars and leading a successful weight loss group. In addition, I have had 80 hours of Postural Restoration physical therapy courses (see www.posturalrestoration.com), am trained in Z-Health (see www.zhealtheducation.com), and have been an Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology, and Nutrition Instructor in the past.

Psychotherapy:

I have a Masters’ degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS), where I had the opportunity to be in the Somatic Psychotherapy program. I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associate (LAMFT) and work under a fully licensed MFT supervisor.

My experience as a Psychotherapist includes working for the Center for Somatic Psychotherapy in San Francisco, working with children in an elementary school, and working with adults, couples, and families in two outpatient clinics. I have also created and co-facilitated a group for people with anxiety, which includes somatic skills and psycho-education on systemic and nutritional/lifestyle causes of anxiety.
