Pam Hoffman, MA, MPH, LPC

I believe that children communicate what is going on in their lives through play and can solve their problems through play. While adults can typically verbalize their needs, play is the language of children and often how they convey their needs, grow in self-awareness, and experience healing. Similarly, teens often express themselves better when working with activities they enjoy, when the pressure is off to “talk about their feelings.” I gain an understanding of my clients’ desires, needs, and values by first forming a safe relationship with them and then collaboratively participating in playful activities that help to establish positive changes in their thought lives, emotional regulation, and family and social relationships.
Hi, I'm Pam!
Therapeutic strengths include
I enjoy tailoring engaging and creative play therapy experiences to match the unique personalities, interests, and needs of my clients. I specialize in the areas of play therapy and parent/caregiver coaching, and I utilize techniques from a variety of evidence-based therapy approaches. I can often easily empathize with the parents I work with regarding the pain of witnessing their child or teenager hurting because I have walked through many hills and valleys in my parenting journey. When desired, I can work closely with my clients’ primary care providers and school support teams to achieve a unified therapy approach. I express warmth, genuine care, and acceptance of my clients and enjoy collaborating on their therapy goals.

Therapeutic approach
My primary goal is to form a secure and trusting relationship with my clients, then help them to develop an awareness of their strengths and values as I support their unique healing journeys. I empower my clients to lead their therapy activities so I can gain an understanding of their worldview and thought processes. In addition, I collaborate closely with clients and parents/caregivers to achieve their priority therapy goals. I help families to continue their growth outside of therapy sessions by empowering them to actively participate in therapy techniques at home. I provide both creative activity-based therapy (e.g., games, sandtray therapy, arts & crafts, visual aids) and conventional ‘talk therapy’ services to children and adolescents, and I also provide parent/caregiver coaching services through Child-Parent Relationship Training (CPRT). I offer both in-person and telehealth therapy options.

Technical jargon
I work from a theoretical foundation in Person-Centered philosophies and Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT) with an appreciation for the stages of human development. My background in public health keeps me grounded in the notions of prevention and holistic care, and I am always considering healthy habits that clients can cultivate now to improve their present lives and help prevent problems further down the road. Other important evidence-based psychological theories that influence my practice include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Attachment-Based Theories, and Solution-Focused Therapy.

The academics
I have master’s degrees in both clinical counseling and public health and am a licensed professional counselor working under the supervision of T. Rob Winkler, MA LP, RPT-S, here at Playmore & Prosper. I also completed a play therapy certificate program, am an active member of the Association for Play Therapy, and I am close to submitting my application to become a Registered Play Therapist (RPT). As I work toward full licensure as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC), I adhere to all ethical and professional standards set forth by my licensing board. In addition, I continue to further my education in the special focus areas listed below.

Services & Fees
Services
I offer individual and family therapy with adults, adolescents, and kids (ages 3+). Services for adolescents and adults are offered via telehealth if requested. For more information about my approach, see above.

Intern option
Ask me about utilizing a Playmore & Prosper graduate-level intern in a therapeutic team approach. The family will be encouraged to allow the intern to visit their home once a week for an in-home family/play therapy session to expand and strengthen the work done in the office. This approach offers more observation, intervention, and evaluation of the therapy process, making it a more comprehensive model for client care. All details and arrangements for utilizing interns will be discussed and agreed upon with clients.

Fees
I am a fee-for-service provider, which means I do not accept insurance. You may be reimbursed by your insurance company for my services if you choose to request "out-of-network" reimbursement. Please verify the specific requirements for reimbursement with your insurance provider, and I will be happy to provide you with the appropriate receipt, billing codes, and diagnosis needed (as insurance will not reimburse if there is no diagnosis).
Payment is due at the time of service. I accept cash, check, or credit/debit card payments, including Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Account (FSA) cards. Credit/debit card payments are accepted through Ivy Pay.
My rate is $100 per 55-minute client/parent session and $200 per new client intake session. Billing rates for client/parent sessions will be prorated if they are less than 55 minutes (e.g. $50 for a 30-minute session). I may implement a sliding scale fee structure upon request based on client eligibility and income verification.
There are no additional fees for interns’ in-home sessions.
